5-Stand is a versatile and exciting shotgun shooting sport that offers a variety of target presentations in a single round. It’s often described as a blend between skeet, trap, and sporting clays. The setup involves five shooting stations (or "stands") arranged in a line, with multiple clay target throwers (or "traps") positioned around the field at different angles and distances.
Each shooter takes turns at the stands, shooting a specific sequence of targets that can be launched as singles, pairs (two targets simultaneously), or report pairs (a second target is released after the first shot is fired). The targets can fly in different directions—crossing, incoming, outgoing, or even rolling on the ground—mimicking a variety of game bird and small game scenarios.
The variety and unpredictability of the target presentations make 5-Stand a challenging and engaging sport that tests a shooter’s skill, accuracy, and reaction time. It's a great way for hunters to practice in the off-season and for shooting enthusiasts to enjoy a dynamic and varied shooting experience.
At KCCL, we regularly change out our 5-Stand course throughout the year to introduce new challenges and variations. This keeps the experience fresh and engaging for members and guests.
5 Stand Flurry
A 5-Stand Flurry is an exhilarating variation of the traditional 5-Stand shooting sport, designed to test a shooter’s speed, coordination, and teamwork. In a flurry, multiple shooters work together to hit as many clay targets as possible within a set time limit.
Here's how it works:
Setup: Shooters stand at the five designated shooting stations, just like in regular 5-Stand. The difference is that in a flurry, multiple targets are released in rapid succession from various traps around the field, creating a "flurry" of targets in the air at the same time.
Gameplay: As soon as the flurry begins, targets start flying in quick, overlapping sequences. The shooters must react quickly, communicating with each other to ensure they cover all the targets without missing any. The intensity of the flurry increases as more targets are launched in rapid succession, making it a fast-paced and challenging experience.
Objective: The goal is for the team to hit as many targets as possible before the flurry ends. Success requires not only individual shooting skill but also teamwork, as shooters coordinate to cover different angles and ensure no target is missed.
A 5-Stand Flurry is a fun and intense way to experience the excitement of shooting sports, perfect for those looking for a more dynamic and challenging round. It's often featured in competitions and events, adding an element of high-paced action to traditional shooting disciplines.
